Site Safety Awareness Training

1-Day Site Safety Awareness course for a CSCS Green Card (Labourers Card):

The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) has made changes for obtaining a CSCS labourer (Green Card).

These are new requirements introduced from July 2014 and state that along with the CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) Test, a qualification (or alternative) must be achieved in order to apply for the CSCS labourer Green Card.

In Spring of 2014 CSCS Chief Executive Graham Wren said:

“The introduction of an entry level qualification to obtain a CSCS labourer Green card is an important move in the CITB strategy to ensure that workers have appropriate qualifications, have the skills and knowledge to carry out their work on construction sites safely.”

Two Training Routes for the CSCS Green Card

Cskills Awards have two routes available for obtaining the CSCS Green Card (Labourers Card):

  • QCF qualification
  • Site Safety Plus Health and Safety Awareness Course, which CSCS view as an alternative to the qualification for the CSCS Green card.

We recommend that candidates take and successfully pass the CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) Test before attending the CSCS Green card safety awareness course.

QCF qualifications (Level 1) are assessed on-site by an assessor, the assessor will ask you a number of questions relating to safety in the workplace, observe you at work carrying out a number of tasks, this can take a number of weeks to assess and verify.

Site Safety Plus Route:

CSCS has accepted the Site Safety Plus Health and Safety Awareness (one day) Course as an alternative to the QCF qualification.

This 1-day CSCS Green card safety course enables a candidate to be trained and assessed all in 1 day, providing the worker access to the workplace quickly.

This course aims to ensure that individual responsibilities are understood

Why delegates are carrying out their identified duties

  • What is expected of delegates
  • Ensuring delegates contribute to the safety of the workplace

The CSCS green card training course is supported by the Safe Start (GE707) publication, which helps the candidate study for the end of day examination. The CSCS Green card has a five-year expiry date, and the Labourer CSCS Green Card can be applied for as long as the certificate is in date at the point of application.
