Forward Tipping Dumper Training Course Outline

Forward tipping dumpers are purpose-built, highly manoeuvrable machines designed for transporting various materials on and around building/construction sites, safely and efficiently.

They work well on a variety of ground conditions ranging from paved roads to rough and muddy sites.

Forward tipping dumpers are where the skip or body is in front of the driver. The skip tips forward or sideways dependent on the type of machine.

Forward tipping dumper capacities range from about 0.5 tonnes up to 9 tonnes. The most commonly used sizes are between 3 and 6 tonnes. This classification by the manufacturer is the maximum carrying capacity of the dumper. Most dumpers are wheeled units, but there are some crawler tracked dumpers available which are especially suited to working in poor site conditions.

Also available are very small dumpers, which are often referred to as ‘microdumpers’.

Many of these are capable of being driven through a standard sized door opening and are very useful in building refurbishment work.

A09 Forward Tipping Dumper:

We offer A09 forward tipping dumper training courses for the novice operator or the semi-experienced operator that would benefit from forward tipping dumper training before they take the operator test under CPCS.

For novice operators; CPCS recommend a minimum 3-day course. Semi experienced operators training duration may vary dependent on the amount of operator experience. Operator testing is for operators that require no further training.

Generally, we recommend A09 CPCS forward tipping dumper training. This is the most widely accepted scheme in the construction industry – offering the operator better work opportunities. NPORS is accepted on some construction sites, however, at present, we would recommend A09 CPCS forward tipping dumper training and testing. A09 CPCS forward tipping dumper training is for any size machine.

A09 CPCS forward tipping dumper training prepares the operator for both the theory and practical test. Operators achieving the required standards will be awarded the A09 CPCS forward tipping dumper category on their red CPCS card.

  • Operate the dumper in line with the manufacturer’s instructions/manual
  • Correctly and safely manoeuvre the machine in a confined area
  • Safely ascend and descend slopes
  • Transport loads at a speed consistent with the load and general site conditions
  • Tip loads safely into an excavation or pit
  • Keep within safe working parameters of the machine
  • Place the dumper in an out-of-service condition, to isolate and secure
  • Understand the limitations of use when operating a dumper
  • Report any problems or defects

At the end of the A09 forward tipping dumper training course; the candidate will be able to achieve the required standards of the CPCS theory and practical test. If the candidate achieves the required standards of the CPCS test, then a red CPCS card will be awarded.

Health & Safety

Before you can take a CPCS test of any kind – you must have completed a health and safety touchscreen test within the past 2 years. If you haven’t done so, you can book a test using the telephone service on 0344 994 4488.
