CPCS Testing
Industrial Training Services Ltd is an Approved CPCS Test Centre.
We are authorised to deliver CPCS training and CPCS testing on our premises in Billericay, Essex. In some cases, we deliver off-centre testing categories. An example of this would be on-site CPCS training and CPCS testing on the A20 hoist. CPCS testing is the most widely recognised and, arguably the most accepted plant machinery training standard in the United Kingdom.

How does CPCS testing work?
Step 1: Health and safety touch screen
To take a CPCS test; you must have completed a CSCS health and safety touch screen test within the last two years. You complete these tests at your local DVLA test centre (the same place you take a driving theory test).
You can make bookings online, but we have had feedback suggesting this process is a little complicated. However, you can call the following number for help making a booking: 0344 994 4491.
You can read more on the CSCS health and safety touchscreen test on the CITB website.
Step 2: Taking a training course
If you are experienced and confident enough to take your CPCS theory and practical test – skip to step 3.
If you have no previous training on the machine that you require a CPCS card for; we suggest you take a CPCS training course. We frequently run these from our CPCS test centre at Billericay in Essex.
On successful completion of these CPCS training courses, you are rewarded the red CPCS trained operative card. Click the link below to find out next open courses for CPCS training.
Step 3: Taking your CPCS tests
You need to take a theory and practical test to get your red CPCS card. We strongly suggest that you book these separately. If you were to fail your theory test and had your practical booked the same day, you would not be able to take the practical and would lose your money as the test would be non-refundable.
CPCS theory test:
You need to take a theory test before you take a practical test. The theory test is delivered as a verbal questioning by one of our CPCS instructors. As part of the CPCS rules, the instructor that tests you, and the one that trains you (if applicable) will be different. The number of questions you’ll be asked depends on the category of plant you would like on your red card.
CPCS practical test:
On successful completion of the CPCS theory test, the practical test may be taken. You can find full information on what is covered in the test on our dedicated CPCS website. Find out more about the theory questions you’ll be asked and the tolerances of the practical CPCS test by following the link.
Step 4: Once you’ve passed
Once you’ve passed your theory and practical CPCS tests – we apply for your red CPCS card. The CPCS red card is for trained operatives and generally takes around a week to come back to us.
We apply for the card on your behalf as the process is much faster than the individual applying for their own card.
Q: What happens when I have my red CPCS card?
Once you have your red CPCS card; you need to start looking ahead at getting your blue CPCS card. The red CPCS card is valid for 2 years. During this two years you need to complete a Level 2 NVQ in Plant Operations. This entitles you to hold a blue CPCS card and consists of evidence collected on site by the operative and generally just one site visit by one of our assessors.
Q: Why choose us for your CPCS testing?
We have delivered CPCS testing and CPCS training courses for many years. We have the advantages of running our own CPCS test-centre and plant machinery. A lot of other providers hire in their machinery and training site, but they pass on the bill to the customer.
More flexible than the competition!
Because we have the advantage of being able to schedule our CPCS testing dates any weekday we like; we can be extremely flexible when looking at potential dates and test times for CPCS tests on our site. Other providers are often limited by the arrangements they have with hire companies and can’t offer as many options as we can.
