Scissor MEWP Training Course Outline

A mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) is a mechanical device used to provide temporary access for people or equipment to inaccessible areas, usually working at height. There are different types of access platforms commonly known as a “cherry picker” or a “scissor lift”.

MEWPs are generally used for temporary access such as building maintenance, construction applications and in airports. MEWPs are very useful on concrete or hard-standing as they provide quick access for the installation of electric ducting, cladding etc. MEWPs can also be fitted with attachments to support compressed air and can feature power outlets for heavy-duty power tools.

MEWPs can only lift limited weights due to their design. Generally, MEWPs carry less than a ton, although some platforms have a higher safe working load (SWL). Mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) are now built in many sizes.

Industrial Training Services offer mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) training courses for the novice operator, and for the semi-experienced operator that would benefit from mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) training before they take their CPCS A25 operator test.

For novice operatives; CPCS and CITB recommend a minimum 2-3 day course dependent on the type of equipment used. Semi-experienced operator course duration may vary dependent on the amount of operator experience.

CPCS A25 mobile elevating work platform operator testing is for operatives that require no further training.

Generally we would recommend A25 CPCS mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) training as this is the most widely accepted scheme in the construction industry, offering the operator better work opportunities. NPORS is accepted on some construction sites, however at present we would recommend A25 CPCS mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) training and testing.

A25 CPCS mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) training is for the all sizes of mobile elevating work platform (MEWP). A25 CPCS mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) training prepares the operator for both the CPCS theory and practical test.

Operators that achieve the required standards will be awarded the all sizes mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) category on their red CPCS card.
