Brush Cutter and Strimmer Training
Brush cutters and large trimmers are used for cutting roadside grass in large areas, and are often heavy enough to require two hands to operate. Some are even fitted with a harness enabling the user’s torso to bear some of the weight. Large trimmers are often referred to as brush cutters. Brushcutters are usually made so that a metal or nylon blades can be fitted instead of the “string line”. Most machines will also have interchangeable attachments.
A metal/nylon blade enables cutting heavier woody brush etc. A strimmer is a tool which uses a flexible monofilament line instead of a blade for cutting grass and plants near fences, walls, paths or on steep or irregular terrain. It consists of a cutting head at the end of a long shaft with a handle or handles and sometimes a shoulder strap (harness).
In recent years, manufacturers have started fitting hedge trimmers. Brush cutters and strimmers can be very dangerous tools, and should only be operated with due regard to safety instructions. The rotating heads even with cord can be powerful enough to strip flesh to the bone.
