HIAB training also known as Lorry Loader training; Industrial Training Services has offered HIAB courses since day one. We can offer a selection of accredited courses as well as a basic ‘in-house’ type certification if the accredited options are not a requirement.

Course Delegates
Operatives looking for a ‘ticket’ of basic training. Our training is to a standard recognised by HSE. We strongly recommended that any person using lorry loaders should have taken basic training – regardless of whether they are using the plant on their own property or on a work-site for a contractor etc.
Course Content
A typical HIAB training course will cover:
- Legal and company requirements
- Equipment sympathy and capabilities
- Dealing with emergencies
- Returning the equipment for storage
- Approved advisory literature
- Operator safety
- Proximity hazards
- Daily inspection including vehicle in motion checks
- Statutory inspection
- Introduction to the controls
- Elementary driving
- Steering and cornering
- Lorry loader
- Extending stabilizers
- Using hook grab or bucket
- Basic crane manoeuvres
- Lifting various loads and selecting slings
- Safe loading of a vehicle, position of loads
- Fit & remove attachments
- Use attachments if fitted
- Written Test
- Practical tests
Course Outcome
On completion of a HIAB training course; candidates will be able to:
- Work safely
- Understand current legislation surrounding plant machinery
- Leave with an improved awareness of the dangers and hazards surrounding usage of heavy plant machinery
- Adopt practices that promote a safe work culture when using lorry loaders
Legality
A level of basic training
Under PUWER; operatives that use plant machinery (including lorry loader) must receive training in the safe use of the equipment that they are using. This training should cover at least the basic operation of the machine and loading operations.
