One of the most commonly used pieces of plant machinery; we deliver telescopic handler training pretty much every day. This can be accredited on-site training under NPORS or on-centre in Essex for CPCS.

Operatives looking for a ‘ticket’ of basic training. Our training is to a standard recognised by HSE. We strongly recommended that any person using telescopic handlers should have taken basic training – regardless of whether they are using the plant on their own property or on a work-site for a contractor etc.
Course Content
A typical telescopic handler training course will cover:
- Introduction to industry
- Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
- Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998
- Lifting Operations & Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998
- Personal Protective Equipment
- Identification of components & terminology and capabilities
- Pre-operational checks
- Operation techniques
- Safe use of the telescopic forklift
- Identification of controls
- Driving and manoeuvring machine
- Parking and securing machine
- Driving and manoeuvring machine
- Preparing for transportation
- Driving on slopes laden/unladen
- Controlled stop laden
- Driving on uneven ground unladen and laden
- Lifting loads from ground level
- Placing loads at ground level
- Lifting loads from eye level
- Placing loads at eye level
- Lifting loads from high level
- Placing loads at high level
- Placing loads on to and off of scaffolding towers (on our site)
- Loading a lorry
- Travelling on public highway (where applicable)
- Loading on to and off of low loader
- Practical and theory tests
Course Outcome
On completion of a telescopic handler course, candidates will be able to:
- Work safely
- Understand current legislation surrounding plant machinery
- Leave with an improved awareness of the dangers and hazards surrounding usage of heavy plant machinery
- Adopt practices that promote a safe work culture when using telescopic handlers
Legality
A level of basic training
Under PUWER; operatives that use plant machinery (including telescopic handlers) must receive training in the safe use of the equipment that they are using. This training should cover at least the basic operation of the machine and loading operations.
